A Note from Coach Mary...

I wanted to take a moment and share a swim story with all of our families.
Three years ago when we swam in the old pool (which is now the
workout room across the parking lot) a young 13 year old girl who just
moved to Texas from Sweden came into the club asking if she could join.

Her parents heard of the club from some other families and they were
told we offered a good program.  Henriette Stenkvist was tall and blonde
and had an eagerness to learn and perfect her strokes.  She was happy
to be at practice and she demonstrated real promise to become a good
swimmer.

At the end of the season her parents informed us they were being
transferred to Raleigh, North Carolina.  At that time, Coach Mary joked
with Henriette telling her there weren't any swimming pools in North
Carolina and she had to stay in Texas so she could swim with MCAC.

Last night, Coach Jim received an email from Henriette's parents telling
him that they were in Texas for the Austin Grand Prix swim meet.  Since
they were in Texas they thought of Coach Jim and the wonderful swim
experience Henriette received when she was with MCAC.

Over the weekend, Henriette swam against Katy Hoff, Ariana Kukors,
Margaret Hoelzer and Natalie Coughlin (for those of you that don't know
who these women are they made up the majority of our women's 2008
Olympic team).  Henriette WON
First Place in the women's 200 meter
backstroke.
She came in second right behind Natalie Coughlin in the 100
m backstroke.
She beat Katie Hoff, Ariana Kukors and Margaret Hoelzer.
By the way, Margaret Hoelzer won bronze in the 100 m back in the 2008
Olympics.

MCAC wants to take a moment and congratulate Henriette on her great
accomplishment.  We also want to say "Thank You" for taking a moment
and sharing your accomplishments with us and remembering our little
team here in Katy, Texas.

We hope to see you in 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our next swim meet is Friday, Feb. 26th
The swim meet for March has changed from April 2nd to March 26th.
